25 Glossary of Terminology terms

This is a glossary for my class.

Activism
A policy or action that uses vigorous campaigning to bring about social or political change.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
This act prohibits discriminations against people that have disabilities that fall under different areas, including employment, transportation, and public accommodations.
Colorblindness
Not being able to see certain colors possibly not being able to see any color at all.
Culture
Doing things under your certain nation. Following the guidelines that your social group follows.
Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
Gives the opportunity to students with a disability to have access to a free education.
Disability
Any sort of condition happening with the mind or your body.

Diversity
The state of being different (having a different variety then others do)

Ethnicity
The state of belonging to a certain social group that practices a common culture or has certain traditions.
Faith
Having belief in whatever it may be.
Inclusion
Including everyone even if they may be different from you. (Opening someone new with open arms and helping them feel welcome)
Literacy
Being able to read and write.
Meritocracy
Holding of power by the people that are selected on their ability.
Minority
Being under the age of the legal age.
Privilege
Having the okay to do something that may be off limit to others.
Race
Certain category that you may fall under considering your religion.
Racism
The thoughts of other people that could be harmful to a certain person.
Religion
The beliefs of a person and what they fall under.
Social Justice
Your privilege's within a society.
Stereotypes
Your thoughts on another person or a certain subject.
System of Oppression
laws of a certain place create unequal treatment towards someone.
Transgender
Not choosing the gender that you were given and switching to the other gender.
Uncivil
Doing something that most people wouldn't approve of.
Values
How you think about things. Showing that you have certain values that are good to have
Viewpoint
Your view on whatever it may be.
Violence
Doing something that could hurt or harm someone.
